Pie Baking Contest

Pies, Pies, Pies!

What is Art on the Avenue without the Pie Baking Contest? It’s a festival favorite! The pies will be on display starting at noon near the Festival Store (between Del Ray and Oxford Avenues). Judging begins at 12:15 pm. Prizes will be awarded in two divisions – youth (17 and under) and adults (amateur bakers.)

Slices of the entries will be for sale around 1 pm with slices with 100% of the proceeds going to our non-profit beneficiary Kelley Cares.

* Note, only pies that do not require refrigeration are able to be accepted, including Randee’s pies listed here.

This year’s contest is in memory of beloved neighbor, friend, all-around great guy and long-time Pie Contest helper Tommy Knoernschild. It is with sad but full hearts that we look ahead to a Pie Contest without Tommy’s back of the house help, “quality control” and infectious smile making an already fun day that much better! This one’s for you buddy!

100% of the proceeds from the pie sales will go to Kelley Cares Foundation, a cause close to Tommy’s heart. The Kelley Cares Foundation is a mission of love for dear daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, cousin and friend Kelley Swanson. Kelley was a vibrant, fun-loving and energetic young woman who left us too early.

Kelley was a very active volunteer for the Therapeutic Recreation Program’s Youth Opportunity Sports program from the fourth grade through her graduation from TC Williams High School. The foundation was formed to carry on Kelley’s civic-minded spirit and her desire to make people aware of the need for inclusion regardless of ability. Find out more at www.kelleycares.org.
