Handmade Recycled Garden
Handmade Recycled Garden on exhibit by Torpedo Factory Artist Lisa Schumaier at the Mt. Vernon
Receation Center. The Handmade Garden was conceived as a group art project to compliment the Reclaimed show in the Target Gallery at the Torpedo Factory. Reclaimed was an exhibition that focused on everyday common objects that are recycled, reinterpreted and transformed into art. School students saved certain recycle-able items and then the kids helped put everything together in the great hall. The former trash grew, with the help of lots of small hands, into a beautiful landscape. It has since made an appearance at Art-o-Matic and is now on exhibit at the Mt. Vernon Recreation Center. Robby the Alexandria recycling Squirrel will be asked to turn it into something new and fabulous next!
Art League to Sponsor Artist Demonstration
The Art League will sponsor an Artist Demonstration of clay techniques on kickwheel by Blair Meerfeld, Art League Ceramics Department Chair. Mr. Meerfeld's interest in salt glazed stoneware stems from years of studying and collecting historic salt-fired pots from Europe and North America. His work has been included in national and international exhibitions and collections. Demonstrations will be held throughout the day at 2413 Mt. Vernon Avenue.
The Art League will also present Conduit a temporary exhibit at 2413 Mt. Vernon Avenue featuring the work of League artist and faculty member Damian Yanessa. "My work is concerned with how vision itself is changing throughout today’s contemporary landscape. Modern technologies are the primary influence by radically altered our sense of perambulation."
